Mercedes-Benz wrote a new chapter in the history of the car manufacturer in 1959 with the introduction of the revised passenger car range. Three completely redesigned models, the 220 b, 220 Sb and 220 SEb, appeared under the slogan "The new six-cylinder models - in a class of their own". These models were characterized by a very spacious and elegant body, which was distinguished above all by the characteristic rear fins. The new model series also set standards in terms of safety, as for example a passenger cell with front and rear crumple zones was implemented for the first time.
